LASER RESURFACING TREATMENT

Laser resurfacing for face, neck, décolleté and back of hands

Everyone loves the sun and the summer. The immediate effects both have on the skin, such as tanning and a healthy glow, are highly desirable aesthetically. However, in the long term, sun exposure decreases collagen production; leading to all sorts of aesthetic problems, such as uneven pigmentation, redness and lack of firmness.

Luckily we live in an age where skin tone and radiance can be improved with cosmetic treatments. This means you have more control than ever over what your skin says about you to the outside world.

With laser resurfacing treatment it is possible to rejuvenate the skin by removing excessive pigmentation, fading redness and leaving the skin smoother and more evenly textured.

What does laser resurfacing consist of?

Ellipse Laser & IPL facial rejuvenation is a non-surgical treatment for the entire face, neck, décolleté and back of the hands.

This procedure uses a pulsed light source that affects the upper layers of the skin without damaging the surrounding tissue. This allows for the effective elimination or reduction of erythema and redness, regulation of sebaceous secretion and elimination of skin blemishes. It also causes a visible improvement of skin with signs of photoaging.

Light that converts light energy into heat is absorbed by age spots, sun spots and freckles. These all contain a substance called melanin; and diffuse redness contains a substance called haemoglobin. The heat caused by the laser resurfacing treatment then destroys the parts of the cells where the melanin is stored; and attacks the walls of the blood vessels that supply blood to the areas where vascular damage is observed.

What is laser resurfacing indicated for?

Benign pigmented lesions can be caused by sun damage, injury, the natural ageing process or even genetics. Skin resurfacing is a fast, non-invasive treatment that repairs sun damage and improves the quality of skin texture.

This procedure has a decade of proven results and millions of satisfied patients. Moreover, its safety and efficacy for skin rejuvenation are clinically proven.

Who is an ideal candidate for this treatment?

You are a perfect candidate for laser resurfacing if you suffer from any of the following problems:

Who is laser resurfacing not recommended for?

Despite their efficacy for some problems, IPL facial photorejuvenation treatments are not recommended for patients with a history of abnormal response to sunlight:

Dark phototypes
Polymorphic light eruption
Solar hives
Patients treated with drugs with photo-sensitising effects

Frequently asked questions about the treatment

Immediately after laser resurfacing treatment, it is normal and likely that the skin will experience some redness. However, this should disappear within hours of the procedure.

The rate at which they do so will vary depending on the sensitivity of each skin type. The pigmented areas will intensify and may become quite dark before fading over the next 5 to 10 days.

It is important to note that before and after the procedure you should avoid fake tanning in tanning beds and excessive sun exposure. Otherwise, the skin will absorb more light, making the treatment less effective and not producing the desired results.

Generally, no post-treatment care or downtime is necessary. However, patients with sensitive skin may benefit from the application of a soothing aloe vera gel. In addition, daily use of a sunscreen with SPF 30+ is recommended.

For laser rejuvenation treatment, 5 or more sessions must be carried out depending on the quality and age of the skin, with recovery periods of between 4 to 6 weeks.

At Clinica Rigo in Tarragona we combine this treatment with other techniques to obtain better results. Treatments to combine with the laser resurfacing procedure include photodynamic therapy, chemical peels, medical radiofrequency, nutritional education and professional cosmetics. In this way, spectacular results are achieved, applying a comprehensive treatment with long-lasting effects.

However, laser rejuvenation treatment does not stop or eliminate the natural ageing process of the skin, so it is recommended to maintain a treatment control every certain period of time to prolong the effects.

The results of laser resurfacing are both immediate and progressive. Soon after treatment, the surface of the skin will feel smoother and softer, and will have a brighter appearance and more even tone. Over the next 3 to 6 months further improvements will appear as the deeper layers of the skin continue to produce new collagen.

The total cost of laser resurfacing treatment will depend on the area that needs to be treated. Contact the Clinica Rigo in Tarragona and book an appointment, where through an examination of your skin we can define a treatment plan and propose a budget based on your personal needs and goals.
